View Full Version : How about adding a "Calendar of Events"

We received this suggestion from one of the members:

"Jim and Janice: Congratulation on your new web site. Do you, or are
you planning to have a Calendar of Events on your site? This would
be a welcome resource."

In general, we think this is a good idea. There are some details we're working on such as:
*How do we keep it from becoming cluttered? Since many of the events are local or regional, we'd want to be able to make it easy for members to find the events of interest to them.
*How can we best ensure the events are kept current. The worst case is when someone posts an event that has an error or is later changed, and the event is not updated. Nothing worse than showing up for an event on the wrong day!
*How broad do we want to make the scope of the events calendar? Local club meeting notices; regional workshops; Retailer sales events; etc.

Reply to this post to let us know what you think of this idea.

I agree with the stuff about "wrong date". I looked up a miniature show the other day that had something like Saturday the 15th and that Saturday was the previous year. THIS year the date fell on a weekday. AND THAT was on their own web page!!

I supose you could have people post with a subject line for the date and location of an upcoming event. Something like: March 7 & 8 2009 Seattle Dollhouse Miniature show and then the rest of the information like location and cost inside the posting.

It would be difficult to keep "comment" posting out of the thread and have only event postings. Many times threads go to things like "has anyone been to this show" or "I love going to this" and you loose the calendar feel of it.

I think having the moderators edit to standardize the postings would be a LOT of work, too. Does this site have a database available to use for such things? A form to fill in the blanks could be built, if it does.
