We went to a workshop for photographers last night, featuring some new products for use with ink jet printers. My mind quickly skipped away from photography and into the excitement of how many applications these opened up for miniature making!

GOLDEN ARTIST COLORS--http://goldenpaints.com/mixmoremedia/index.php
is introducing three new Digital Grounds and two UV Protective Gel Topcoats. Basically, the Grounds will let you get a crisp print on anything you can put through your ink jet printer—including metal sheets, acrylics, fabrics, acetate, paint skins, marble, leather, wood veneers, collages and painted pieces, foils, ( even aluminum foil from your kitchen ) and all those gorgeous handmade papers at the art store which previously gave you blurred images, etc.

The Artist demonstrated numerous materials—one side coated with Digital Grounds—one side left natural.
In the dozen examples we saw, the results were really amazing. In each instance, the side coated with Grounds gave a crisp image with great color. Often, the uncoated side didn’t take a print, or it was blurred, or the jet inks just beaded on the surface.

So—now you can make that Elvis print on black velvet; print a shower curtain design on plastic and shower door decoration on Plexiglas; make wallpaper on foil; print intricate designs on metal or wood veneer for kitchen cabinets; even print onto leather for trunks and suitcases. I’m thinking the ideas are endless…!

Very cool! Now you have the wheels beginning to spin in my head, too. I wish I could have seen the product demonstrated. It sounds fascinating!
