VILLA DECOR: Decidedly French & Italian Style By: Betty Lou Phillips

Product Description
In her newest book, Villa Décor, Betty Lou Phillips discusses how to mix styles, furnishings, inspirations, and colors from different eras and locations to create the looks for which the French and Italian people are known-wisps of elegance, hints of regal color, textures that delight and inspire. Villa Décor illustrates the mastery of the fabled French way of melding the past with the present so each is seen in the best possible light, as well as the uncanny Italian knack of linking rooms effortlessly with patterns and palettes without detracting from the furnishings or objets d'art, capturing a trend in American decorating. Betty Lou Phillips demonstrates how to virtuously juxtapose various periods and styles in widely diverse, satisfying rooms that are never dull or predictable. Quiet French elegance, Italian romance, and the simplicity of sweet life-la dolce vita.

The Art of the Miniature by Jane Freeman and Roger Rosenblatt

For anyone who adores the art of creating small things, The Art of the Miniature provides a treasure trove of practical techniques and ingenious approaches. In this captivating guide, noted artist Jane Freeman shows readers, step by step, how to use modified kit components, and found and handmade objects to create intensely detailed miniature constructions. Readers will learn the entire process of creating a miniature room, structure, or landscape, from selecting a container to choosing the subject, approach, and style. Page after page of wonderful, full-color examples display painstakingly accurate "portraits" of interiors and buildings (such as a Hollywood studio and a trendy New York City retail store), imaginary opera sets (Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute) and even the studios of famous artists (van Gogh and Matisse), providing readers with hundreds of unique ideas for making and adapting found objects to meet the needs of their own miniature projects. The book also features the inspirational work of several other leading miniatures artists, including Susan Leopold, David Levinthal, Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs, and Alan Wolfson. Packed with scores of tested tips, no-fail techniques, and expert pointers, The Art of the Miniature is sure to be a never-ending source of inspiration for dollhouse hobbyists, miniatures collectors, and fine artists everywhere.

Victorian Dolls' House...

Take a tour through the miniature Victorian house—from the hustle and bustle of the basement kitchen, the impressive hallway, to the grand dining room and comfortable parlor—and make projects for every room. Using basic tools and materials, beginners will enjoy crafting the waxed sugar dome and dressing table set, while for the more experienced miniaturist there is the challenge of a traveling trunk or four-poster bed. Each project is accompanied by historical information, providing a real insight into the lives of the Victorians to help bring your dolls’ house to life.

The New Dolls' House...

In this is update of their decade-old title ( LJ 4/15/83), the authors have applied current technology and materials to the craft--e.g., they descibe a clever technique to create bedspreads, rugs, and matching wallpaper using laser printers. While the previous book focused on 116 scale, in this volume all plans and patterns include the more popular 112 scale. The first seven chapters describe how to plan, build, decorate, and furnish the house, while the remaining sections contain specific projects, including gardens and dolls. Dimensions are in inches, but, unfortunately, sources are British. Still, the many original tips and tricks, and the suitability of most furniture projects for beginners, make this a good introduction to a popular hobby.
